Hurley Medical Center's Ob-Gyn program is a community-based, safety-net residency in Flint, Michigan, affiliated with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, training residents in a public teaching hospital that serves as a regional referral resource for a medically underserved population. The four-year, progressive curriculum builds from uncomplicated gynecologic and low-risk obstetric care in Year 1 toward complex operative gynecology, high-risk obstetrics, and chief-level supervisory responsibility, supported by subspecialty faculty in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, and reproductive endocrinology and expanding robotic surgical infrastructure (daVinci Xi/5, ION). Recent fellowship placements in MFM, MIGS, complex family planning, and genetics indicate a program that supports subspecialization while also explicitly preparing graduates for general consultative or primary Ob-Gyn practice. The program emphasizes hands-on responsibility, structured team communication, and mentorship-driven supervision of junior residents rather than research output as its defining feature.
