UVA is a university-affiliated academic neurology program built around a categorical 4-year (adult) or 5-year (child neurology/pediatrics combined) structure that guarantees uninterrupted training in Charlottesville while exposing residents to a high-volume tertiary academic medical center. The program's identity is shaped by two named tracks—Neurology Clinician Educator (N-CERT) and Neurology Clinician Investigator (N-CIRT)—that formalize distinct pathways toward academic medicine, alongside a long-standing rural outreach field clinic in underserved Southwest Virginia and optional international rotations (Glasgow NHS, New Zealand) that expose residents to comparative systems of care and clinical autonomy. Residents rotate through numerous named subspecialty and multidisciplinary clinics (Huntington's, ALS, epilepsy, movement, neuroimmunology, ketogenic diet, NF, tuberous sclerosis), reflecting a fellowship-feeder orientation across nearly every neurology subspecialty.
