Program Identity & Fit

This is a university-affiliated academic neurology program built around a small class (five residents per year) trained across a genuinely diverse consortium of sites—a certified comprehensive stroke center, a VA hospital with high case-severity referrals, a top-20 children's hospital with a Level 4 epilepsy center, a comprehensive cancer center, and dedicated MS, memory disorder, and neuromuscular clinics. The program is distinguished by a structured, mentored research requirement built into all four years (original or analytic project, expected to be submission-worthy for publication), positioning it among "a select few" neurology programs nationally with this level of research infrastructure. Clinically, it serves a regionally significant burden of stroke, MS (one of the highest prevalence rates in the country), and epilepsy, with residents managing their own continuity panel and graduated autonomy in specialty clinics. The program frames itself as preparing both community-facing general neurologists and subspecialists/researchers, with explicit institutional support (conference funding, mentor-guided projects, QI initiatives) for those inclined toward academic or fellowship-oriented paths.
