This is a newly ACGME-accredited four-year neurology residency at MetroHealth, the safety-net academic medical center and major Case Western Reserve University teaching affiliate in Cleveland, explicitly built around serving an underserved, "most vulnerable" inner-city patient population within a Level I trauma center and busy critical care/aeromedical system. The curriculum is structured as a graded-autonomy general neurology track (heavy internal medicine foundation, then systematic rotations through vascular, neuromuscular, epilepsy, movement disorders, neurocritical care, pediatric neurology, EEG/EMG) explicitly aimed at producing well-rounded general neurologists and clinician-educators rather than subspecialty researchers, with only a longitudinal research/QI thread rather than dedicated research years. Institutionally the program emphasizes resident-as-teacher roles, mentorship, and a mission-driven, community-service identity inherited from MetroHealth's broader charitable-care mandate, while still offering full academic appointments through CWRU. As an inaugural program, it appears to value clinical versatility, comfort with high-acuity/complex chronic disease in a vulnerable population, and genuine investment in teaching and systems-level care over narrow research pedigree.
