Program Identity & Fit

Texas Health Dallas Internal Medicine is a nearly 50-year-old community-based teaching program at a tertiary faith-affiliated hospital, structured to produce graduates who split roughly evenly between fellowship and hospitalist/outpatient private practice careers. The curriculum is heavily elective/selective-driven (up to 6 months per year) with broad subspecialty exposure (cardiology, GI, hem-onc, nephrology, endocrinology, rheumatology) and a distinctive integrative/mind-body medicine curriculum developed with the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center, alongside a federally qualified health center continuity clinic serving an underserved population. Research is supported but not central—residents are encouraged toward case reports, posters, and QI/patient-safety committee work rather than large-scale scholarship. The program emphasizes resident autonomy on ward teams (working under multiple attendings rather than a rigid university hierarchy), a tight-knit collegial faculty-resident culture, and a whole-person/holistic model of physician development.
