Program Identity & Fit

This is a new (2022-inaugural) community-based internal medicine program operating across two Texas Health hospitals (HEB and Denton), academically affiliated with TCU's Burnett School of Medicine, and structured around a 4+1 inpatient/outpatient model with resident-run teaching services and close-but-hands-on attending oversight rather than a heavily hierarchical university structure. The program emphasizes personalized mentorship in smaller classes, mandatory longitudinal quality-improvement projects tied to ACP competition, and a broad selective/elective menu that supports both primary care and fellowship pathways, with roughly half of graduates pursuing fellowships (pulmonary/critical care, cardiology, endocrinology, sleep medicine) and the rest entering hospitalist or outpatient practice. Its resident roster is heavily IMG- and DO-inclusive, drawing from Pakistani, South Asian, Caribbean, and US osteopathic schools, reflecting a program built on training solid, well-rounded general internists rather than research-first subspecialist pipelines. The program explicitly values applicants demonstrating genuine interest in this specific site and community-based mission over pedigree.
