St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital/NEOMED is a community-based, university-affiliated internal medicine residency with a long training history (since 1967) built around serving an inner-city underserved adult population and non-English-speaking minority patients in Youngstown, Ohio. The program is embedded within a Level I Trauma Center and tertiary referral hub, giving residents exposure to high-acuity inpatient and critical care medicine alongside a substantial continuity ambulatory clinic (over 3,000 active patients) where residents serve as primary care physicians throughout training. Scholarly activity is actively cultivated and recognized (Ohio ACP Gold/Silver Medals for Research, numerous regional and national poster presentations), and the program explicitly supports residents pursuing fellowship through structured research mentorship, while also preparing others directly for hospital medicine or primary care.
