Program Identity & Fit

St. Agnes is a Baltimore community teaching hospital with a longstanding, faith-rooted (Ascension/Daughters of Charity) internal medicine residency that emphasizes well-rounded clinical training, systems-based quality improvement, and patient safety over subspecialty prestige. Residents rotate through Johns Hopkins Hospital and can pursue electives at University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins, but the program's own identity is built around a longitudinal QIPS curriculum, resident-led QI projects, IHI Open School certification, and active participation in hospital committees rather than heavy bench or NIH-funded research. Career outcomes are explicitly pluralistic - primary care, hospital medicine, fellowship, research, or advocacy - with a dedicated fellowship workshop and board review course supporting whichever path residents choose. The program markets itself on culture (collaboration, inclusivity, wellness) and a track record of placing many international medical graduates into hospitalist and attending roles at the same institution.
