Memorial Healthcare System's Internal Medicine Residency is a community-based, university-affiliated program (FAU, FIU, Nova Southeastern COM, University of Miami) operating within one of the largest public healthcare systems in the country, offering a medium-sized, high-touch structure with 24/7 hospitalist/intensivist backup and no overnight call (night float model). The program has its own IRB and Office of Human Research with a Chief Medical Research Officer supporting resident scholarship, and mandates some form of scholarly activity for graduation, alongside structured QI/patient safety training. Career outcomes are heavily bifurcated toward subspecialty fellowship (notably a high volume of in-house Cardiovascular Disease, Hematology/Oncology, and Infectious Disease fellowship placements) and hospitalist/primary care community practice, with fewer graduates pursuing purely academic-research careers. Distinctive features include a Longitudinal Integrative Medicine curriculum, telehealth and mobile health unit exposure, an internal fellowship pipeline that many residents use to stay at MHS, and a strict no-away-rotation, no-observership policy reflecting a self-contained training culture.
