This is a large community-based, statutory teaching hospital IM program at Larkin's Palm Springs Campus (247-bed acute care hospital, Primary Stroke Center) in Hialeah, FL, with a resident body composed almost entirely of IMGs, many from Cuban, Latin American, and Caribbean medical schools. The three-year curriculum is built around a hospitalist-model PGY-1 foundation, graduated inpatient responsibility, weekly continuity clinic, and broad subspecialty rotation exposure (cardiology, nephrology, GI, heme-onc, ID, rheumatology) rather than a niche or subspecialty-heavy track. Larkin's institution-wide Department of Research and Academic Affairs offers structured scholarly infrastructure (CITI training, research internships, IRB support, manuscript/poster mentorship) that residents can opt into, but this sits alongside, not in place of, a broad clinical-service training model. The program's mission emphasizes serving a diverse community and educating physicians who reflect that community, consistent with its identity as a high-volume, service-oriented safety-net-adjacent training site rather than a tertiary referral or subspecialty-fellowship pipeline.
