Program Identity & Fit

Creighton's Phoenix Internal Medicine program is a university-affiliated, community-based training model built through the Arizona Health Education Alliance (Creighton, Dignity Health St. Joseph's, Valleywise Health, and District Medical Group), pairing a large tertiary referral hospital with Valleywise Health's safety-net system to give residents heavy exposure to underserved and vulnerable populations. The program explicitly prioritizes underserved care through structured community outreach (St. Vincent de Paul Clinic, CATCH home-visit program) alongside subspecialty depth via Centers of Excellence in lung/transplant, cancer, heart, women's health, and neuroscience, and offers in-house fellowship pathways in Gastroenterology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Hospice & Palliative Care. Scholarly activity is structured but not the program's defining feature—research conferences, presentation opportunities, and a travel stipend exist to stimulate output rather than anchor an investigator-track identity.
