College Medical Center's Internal Medicine residency is a community-based program built around a 221-bed acute care hospital in Long Beach, offering progressive resident autonomy under graded supervision rather than a research-driven academic identity. Core inpatient training occurs at the community hospital, while an affiliation with Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital supplements the curriculum with subspecialty rotations (cardiology, ID, endocrinology, neurology, nephrology, MICU) to broaden exposure beyond the primary community setting. The program is oriented toward both direct practice and fellowship placement, with stated resident outcomes in Pulmonary/Critical Care, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, and Hospice/Palliative Care. Continuity clinic is built into every year, signaling a value on longitudinal outpatient primary care skills alongside inpatient volume and hands-on autonomy.
