BMC Brighton is a Boston University-affiliated, tertiary-care internal medicine program built around a 4+2 block structure that pairs longitudinal continuity clinic with heavy inpatient and ICU exposure at a 308-bed academic hospital, and it maintains a distinct community-based BMC South track in Brockton with additional experience at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital serving incarcerated and state-custody patients. The program's fellowship placement record (cardiology, GI, heme-onc, nephrology, ID, endocrine, pulm/critical care) at academic centers nationally and its emphasis on resident scholarly output, protected research elective time, and an annual Research Day indicate a program oriented toward subspecialty fellowship training rather than primary care terminal practice, despite the robust continuity clinic. Distinctive structural features include the parallel BMC South community track with its own site director and a required QI curriculum led by the Chair of Medicine, offering applicants a choice between a Boston tertiary-referral identity and a Brockton community/safety-net identity within one accredited program.
