The University of Mississippi Medical Center Med/Peds program is based at Mississippi's only academic medical center, the state's sole Level I trauma center and only site for organ transplantation, giving residents exposure to the full acuity spectrum from neonatology through geriatrics within a single institution. As the state's designated safety-net referral system, the program serves a population with limited alternative access to subspecialty care, and residents split time evenly between the two departments, integrating with categorical peers and sometimes rising to chief resident in either program.
