Program Identity & Fit

ChristianaCare's combined EM/IM residency operates within a large, non-sectarian academic-community health system anchored by Christiana Hospital, Delaware's only Level I trauma center, and a high-volume emergency department (among the top 15-20 nationally for ED visits). The program integrates dual EM and IM didactics, extensive critical care exposure across MICU/CVICU/SICU/PICU, and a longitudinal simulation curriculum, reflecting a structure built for residents pursuing broad acute-care competency across both specialties. Research is a required, mentored component for all residents culminating in national-meeting presentation, supported by dedicated research nurses, biostatisticians, and a formal scholarly-project infrastructure, and the program also offers named distinction tracks (global health) and leadership development (LEED-R). The program values residents comfortable with dual-boarded training intensity, systems-based practice, and structured scholarly output, while operating as a major teaching affiliate for two Philadelphia medical schools.
