About this program

A community-based family medicine residency and the first established in Alabama, taking 12 residents in each postgraduate year. Inpatient training is at Huntsville Hospital, a 941-bed regional referral center with a Level 1 trauma center, and continuity care runs through a Family Medicine Center the program describes as the largest primary care practice in North Alabama. The program reports more than 450 graduates working as private practitioners, faculty, hospitalists, geriatricians and proceduralists, and states it holds one of the highest American Board of Family Medicine pass rates in the state. The emphasis throughout is on volume, acuity and breadth rather than subspecialty pipeline-building.
