Summa Health/Barberton is a longstanding, community-based family medicine program (established 1982, six residents per year) operating as a NEOMED-affiliated teaching site within a larger Ohio integrated health system, emphasizing high-volume, hands-on continuity practice rather than tertiary subspecialty exposure. The curriculum builds progressively increasing continuity panels (50-75 families in PGY1 to 150-200 in PGY3), broad procedural exposure across OB, surgery, orthopedics, and gynecology, and a longitudinal practice-management curriculum covering billing, coding, and office operations, signaling a strong outpatient full-scope generalist orientation. Community medicine and population health rotations, including work with underserved community clinics and a student-run free clinic, reflect a service-oriented, community-health mission rather than a research-driven identity. Research infrastructure exists at the system level (Clinical Research Center, DISCOVER Center) but is not built into the residency curriculum itself, indicating research is available but not central to the program's training identity.
