Program Identity & Fit

Roseburg Family Medicine Residency is a community-based, FQHC-embedded program explicitly built to train physicians for rural and underserved practice in the Pacific Northwest, unopposed and structured as 8/8/8 with continuity clinic at Aviva Health (a Tier 5 PCPCH) and inpatient/procedural training at Mercy Medical Center, a sole-community regional hospital. Its curriculum is procedure- and community-need-driven rather than research-driven, with substantial addiction medicine/MAT training at ADAPT facilities, a VA continuity clinic, broad office-based procedural exposure (LEEP, colposcopy, vasectomy, endoscopy, obstetric ultrasound), and 20 weeks of individualized elective time to shape residents toward rural full-scope practice. As a program that welcomed its first class in 2020, it emphasizes resident input in shaping culture and explicitly seeks an "entrepreneurial mindset and pioneering spirit" over prestige-driven candidates. Research appears limited to QI/journal club within didactics rather than a core identity element, and career orientation is squarely toward comprehensive rural primary care rather than fellowship or academia.
