Program Identity & Fit

This is a university-based, multi-site family medicine residency network anchored by IU School of Medicine, spanning academic urban clinics (Indianapolis), community hospital sites (Arnett, Ball Memorial), and rural/critical-access settings (Jasper), reflecting a broad training identity that blends academic medicine with community and rural practice. The curriculum emphasizes full-spectrum family medicine with substantial procedural volume (C-sections, vasectomies, colposcopy, joint injections, POCUS) and structured tracks—Standard, Maternity Care, and Acute Care Medicine at Ball Memorial; Global Health, Adult Hospital Medicine, Sports Medicine, and OMM at Arnett—allowing residents to tailor training toward hospitalist, surgical OB, or outpatient-only careers. Research is institutionally supported through IU's broader research infrastructure and the Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research and Policy, but is not positioned as a central resident expectation; instead, the program foregrounds individualized career tracking and graduate outcomes spanning hospitalists, surgical obstetrics, and outpatient practice. The program values adaptability to community needs, procedural competency, and self-directed career focus achieved through track selection rather than a single unified training philosophy.
