Program Identity & Fit

This is a new, small "Clinic First" community-based Family Medicine program (six residents per class, first cohort 2022-23) built around a single continuity clinic, Lee's Summit Family Medicine, paired with Lee's Summit Medical Center, and embedded within the large HCA Healthcare hospital network for supplemental rotations and resources. The program emphasizes a group-practice model where residents hold their own patient panels alongside faculty, continuity of care from week one, and a longitudinal Lifestyle Medicine curriculum allowing residents to sit for ABLM certification. Research is present but modest in scope, structured mainly through required QI projects and access to HCA's national scholarly infrastructure rather than a dedicated academic research track. Graduates are explicitly prepared for direct-to-practice roles (with or without OB, FQHCs, community clinics, hospital-based programs) or optional fellowships in sports medicine, surgical OB, palliative care, or faculty development, reflecting a comprehensive, generalist, community-oriented identity rather than a subspecialty pipeline.
