Program Identity & Fit

St. John's Episcopal Hospital's dermatology program is an osteopathically-rooted, now ACGME-accredited three-year residency serving the underserved Rockaway Peninsula and Five Towns community, with a heavily DO-trained resident and faculty base and a curriculum spanning medical, surgical, cosmetic, and pediatric dermatology plus dermatopathology. Clinical training occurs across a network of private practices and hospital-affiliated clinics throughout NYC's five boroughs and Long Island, with residents managing a longitudinal continuity-clinic patient panel and training alongside four Mohs surgeons. Research is present (publication and conference presentation opportunities, clinical trials exposure) but the program's stated emphasis leans more toward comprehensive clinical, procedural, and cosmetic skill-building than a research-driven identity. The program explicitly values community outreach and culturally competent, holistic care for an underserved population, alongside resident wellness infrastructure.
