Program Identity & Fit

This is a five-year combined Child Neurology program pairing Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University (adult neurology, PGY-3) with Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware (pediatrics and child neurology, all other years), housed within a nationally ranked, NIH top-13-funded pediatric quaternary care system that is Delaware's only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. The training structure is deliberately staged: two years of general pediatrics, a full year of adult neurology immersion at Jefferson, and two culminating years of pediatric neurology consults, outpatient subspecialty clinics (epilepsy, neuromuscular, neuroimmunology, neuro-oncology, movement, tuberous sclerosis/NF), EEG, and neurosurgery/radiology exposure. Research is structurally embedded rather than incidental — supported by dedicated centers (Pediatric Neuroscience Research Center, DECODE epilepsy/cognition lab, Neonatal Brain Injury Lab) and a formal graduate research infrastructure with University of Delaware — and residents are expected to engage in lab, clinical trial, or QI work with national presentation opportunities. The program appears to value residents who can tolerate a dual-institution, dual-population (adult and pediatric) training identity and who are drawn to a broad subspecialty pediatric neurology exposure within a single referral hub rather than a narrowly community-based practice model.
