Program Identity & Fit

This is a medium-sized, university-affiliated categorical anesthesiology program anchored at the sole Level-1 trauma center in Eastern Tennessee, giving residents high procedural volume and early clinical autonomy, with graduation-level case numbers often reached within the first two clinical years. Pediatric training is supplemented through a dedicated two-month rotation at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, and in-house fellowships in Pain Medicine, Perioperative Medicine, and Regional Anesthesia/Acute Pain reflect subspecialty infrastructure without displacing a strong private-practice orientation, since much of the surgical staff are community private-practice physicians.
