Jefferson's Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine Residency is an academic, tertiary/quaternary-care program built around Thomas Jefferson University Hospital's high-acuity surgical subspecialty services, including a nationally ranked cardiac surgery program, active multi-organ transplant service (heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas), a dedicated neuroscience hospital, a high-risk obstetric referral practice, and a freestanding pediatric affiliate (Nemours). The curriculum is structured with a specialty-designed clinical base year, progressive subspecialty exposure through CA-1 to CA-3, protected daily didactics, simulation, and mock oral boards aimed squarely at board exam performance, and a heavy emphasis on regional anesthesia and acute/chronic pain training supported by in-house fellowships.
