RUHS is a county safety-net, level 1 trauma center program in Moreno Valley with historical roots in osteopathic training (AOA-accredited since 2000) that transitioned to ACGME accreditation, and it maintains a small class size (10 residents) emphasizing close faculty-resident contact and early exposure to complex cases. Clinical training is distributed across four sites, including subspecialty rotations at Cedars-Sinai (cardiac, chronic pain, ICU), Children's Hospital Los Angeles (pediatric anesthesia), and Loma Linda (further pediatric training), giving residents tertiary-level subspecialty exposure not typically available at a standalone county hospital. Scholarly activity is a structured yearly requirement supported by a dedicated research office (CECORC) with access to national databases and conference funding, and roughly half of graduates pursue fellowships at recognized academic institutions while others enter private practice or academia. The program's community outreach initiatives (mediGOAL) and county mission signal a value placed on service to underserved populations alongside physician leadership development.
