Keck's anesthesiology residency is a university-based, academic program anchored at Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, supplemented by community hospital rotations (Verdugo Hills, Arcadia) and a dedicated pediatric block at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, giving residents exposure to both quaternary-level complex/oncologic surgical cases and high-volume, rapid-turnover community anesthesia. Research is structurally embedded via a mandatory CA-1 through CA-3 research rotation culminating in an abstract presentation and manuscript, and the department runs its own SF Match-affiliated Regional Anesthesiology/Acute Pain fellowship and an ERAS-based Pain Medicine fellowship, signaling strong subspecialty and academic fellowship pipelines. Distinctive features include a global health elective addressing underserved populations locally and abroad, a formal practice management curriculum, simulation-based OR crisis training, and progressive autonomy across CA years.
