Kaweah Health's Anesthesiology Residency is a community-based, hospital-district program serving as the sole anesthesiology training site in California's Central Valley, an underserved region between the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Training centers on high clinical volume—nearly 18,000 anesthetics and over 4,000 deliveries annually—across an 18-room surgical suite, giving residents broad hands-on exposure to general, obstetric, cardiovascular, neuro, pediatric, and regional anesthesiology without heavy subspecialty fellow competition. The four-year structure, including a dedicated fundamental clinical skills year and stepwise CA1-3 rotations, emphasizes building independent, confident clinical practitioners rather than research output. Resident composition (predominantly DO graduates from a wide range of osteopathic and newer allopathic schools) and program messaging around serving community needs signal a practice-ready, service-oriented identity rather than an academic or research-intensive one.
