This is a newly established categorical anesthesiology program sponsored by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai but based primarily at Mount Sinai South Nassau, a 455-bed community hospital on Long Island's South Shore that is actively expanding into higher-acuity services including cardiac and trauma surgery. The curriculum blends community-based general OR volume with structured subspecialty rotations (cardiac, neuro, pediatric, CTICU) completed at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, giving residents a hybrid community/tertiary experience rather than a purely academic quaternary caseload. Scholarly activity is required in CA-3 but appears as one structured month rather than a defining pillar, and the CA-3 year offers elective tracks (advanced cardiac, advanced regional, research, leadership) signaling flexibility for both fellowship-bound and community-practice-oriented trainees.
