Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, faith-founded academic hospital program newly affiliated with the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU, combining a not-for-profit health-system infrastructure with tertiary-level surgical subspecialty exposure in cardiac, transplant, and complex oncologic/head-and-neck care. The four-year categorical curriculum builds broad perioperative competency (intraoperative TEE, regional and chronic pain, OB, neuro, cardiothoracic) supplemented by away rotations at Texas Children's Hospital for pediatric anesthesia and at the BSW Surgical Hospital for pain management, with extended tracks for residents pursuing pediatric or pain fellowships. Research is structured but secondary to clinical training: residents complete a required QI/safety project and are encouraged, not mandated, to pursue interdepartmental collaboration and present at ASA/TSA meetings under a dedicated research director. The program's resident roster (heavily DO-trained physicians from a range of community and osteopathic schools) and its emphasis on "business-minded," service-oriented physician development suggest a preference for clinically grounded, community-committed trainees over research-intensive academicians.
