Program Identity & Fit

This is a five-year, ACGME-accredited 0+5 Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University, a quaternary academic medical center with multi-site training across a Level I trauma center, a VA hospital, MetroHealth, and community UH campuses, yielding close to 1,000 vascular cases and a full breadth of open and endovascular exposure. The program emphasizes structured progression toward independence, with senior residents leading services and the fifth year fully dedicated to vascular surgery, alongside a near-100% ABS board pass rate over the past decade. Research is embedded but not the program's central identity: all residents complete a required academic project culminating in publication/presentation, with departmental support for conference travel, publication fees, and weekly research lab meetings, situated within a large UH research infrastructure. The program values trainees who thrive in a high-volume, multi-institutional service environment, take on progressive clinical autonomy, and can contribute academically while pursuing board certification and eventual practice or subspecialty leadership.
