Maimonides is a high-volume, community-based academic surgery program in Brooklyn offering broad categorical exposure across colorectal, breast, ENT, pediatric, bariatric, vascular, thoracic, and oncologic surgery, with robotic and minimally invasive platforms integrated throughout training. The five-year curriculum layers progressive operative autonomy (assistant chief in PGY3, chief-level responsibility by PGY4-5) with structured external rotations at high-acuity centers-Shock Trauma at the University of Maryland and transplant rotations at Mount Sinai or Northwell-signaling deliberate exposure to complex, tertiary-level care beyond the home institution. Research is meaningfully supported, including a funded one-year dedicated research position at the University of Oxford after PGY2, internal research infrastructure, and monthly research meetings, indicating the program values residents who will engage in scholarly output alongside clinical volume. The emphasis on simulation (FLS/FES testing center status), mock orals, and a structured meritocracy/competition system reflects a program oriented toward producing board-ready, technically proficient surgeons prepared for competitive fellowship match.
