Program Identity & Fit

This is a flagship academic radiation oncology program embedded in one of the largest clinical radiation oncology services in the country, delivering over 100,000 treatments annually across seven campus facilities and serving roughly half of St. Louis metropolitan cancer patients. The department's technological identity centers on firsts (first single-room proton center, first MRI-guided treatments, first online adaptive treatments), giving residents heavy exposure to advanced image-guided and adaptive techniques, brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceuticals. Research is deeply woven into training via a formal Physician Scientist Training track and the ABR Holman Research Pathway, with residents routinely earning ASTRO/RSNA seed grants, presenting nationally, and many holding MD/PhD or dual-degree backgrounds; graduates frequently move into academic faculty positions.
