Program Identity & Fit

This is a combined Pediatrics/Medical Genetics and Genomics pathway housed within the Case Western Reserve/University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital system, an academic tertiary and quaternary referral center serving as a regional hub for complex and rare pediatric disease. Trainees complete general pediatrics training within an X+Y ambulatory-block structure alongside a scholarly-activity requirement, embedded in a department with substantial NIH-funded and translational research (cystic fibrosis, genetic/metabolic disease, immunotherapy, endocrinology) and a distinct Pediatric Genetics Residency track coordinated separately from the categorical program. The clinical population is heavily Medicaid-insured and medically underserved, with a continuity clinic co-located with social work, medical-legal, and nutrition services, reflecting a program identity that blends complex diagnostic/genetics subspecialty exposure with a safety-net community mission. Career outcomes explicitly include fellowship and subspecialty practice as well as general pediatrics, and the program values residents who can integrate rigorous clinical training with sustained scholarly or advocacy engagement.
