The University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic program is a high-volume, subspecialty-structured orthopaedic surgery residency built around the historic Campbell Clinic, a recognized referral center in the field, with rotations spanning trauma, pediatrics, spine, hand, foot and ankle, sports medicine, oncology, adult reconstruction and total joint across multiple affiliated sites (Baptist Memorial/Campbell Clinic, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, Regional One Health Level 1 Trauma Center, and the VA Medical Center). The 50/50 clinical-surgical split and graduated, level-based responsibility system (level C to level A) emphasize continuity of care and progressive operative autonomy under close one-on-one faculty mentorship organized by subspecialty. Departmental research spans basic, translational and clinical musculoskeletal science (cartilage biology, osteoarthritis, bone genetics, orthobiologics) led by dedicated PhD investigators, giving residents exposure to bench-to-bedside orthopaedic research infrastructure within a broader R1-designated academic health system.
