Cooper's Orthopaedic Surgery residency is a small, university-affiliated program built around its identity as the sole Level 1 trauma center in southern New Jersey, giving residents heavy exposure to complex fractures, polytrauma, and pelvic trauma with graduated autonomy toward independent practice. The program is subspecialty-rich, with fellowship-trained faculty across arthroplasty, spine, hand, oncology (in partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper), foot and ankle, and sports medicine, plus dedicated pediatric orthopaedic blocks at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and CHOP. Research is structurally supported through a dedicated Research Manager, animal vivarium access, and translational collaboration with Rowan Biomedical Engineering, with at least one resident project expected over five years and an annual Research Day. The program emphasizes early operative exposure, a mentorship-based faculty model, and readiness to independently manage Level 1 trauma call upon graduation.
