Wills Eye Hospital, the nation's first eye specialty hospital and now the ophthalmology department of Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, is a flagship academic ophthalmology program with the longest continuous training history in the country and a faculty blend of full-time academic clinician-scientists and part-time private practitioners. The clinical environment is built on subspecialty-siloed services (cornea, retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, ocular oncology, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatrics) with an international referral base that exposes trainees to rare and complex pathology alongside high-volume routine disease, supplemented by the Farber Vision Research Center's infrastructure for clinical, translational, and imaging/AI-driven research.
