Program Identity & Fit

UTMB's Ob/Gyn residency is a century-old academic program built around a mandatory continuity clinic, a resident-run service structure (PGY-4s head services under attending supervision), and rotations spanning general Ob/Gyn, gynecologic oncology, MFM, urogynecology, REI, and adolescent gynecology, with some subspecialty exposure occurring off-site (Houston REI, MD Anderson gyn-onc, Longview gynecology). Research is embedded structurally through a dedicated research block, three NIH/CPRIT-funded research centers, and participation in the national MFMU network, with departmental funding for residents presenting accepted abstracts at national meetings (ACOG, SMFM, AAGL, IDSOG). The program explicitly frames its curriculum as flexible enough to support academic careers, subspecialty fellowship, or private practice, without privileging one pathway, and emphasizes team cohesion, institutional leadership participation (ACOG/CREOG resident roles), and a small-town Galveston setting with proximity to Houston.
