Program Identity & Fit

CU Anschutz is a university-based OB-GYN program that trains residents across three distinct hospital systems—UCHealth's tertiary/quaternary academic center, Denver Health's safety-net county hospital, and Rose Medical Center's high-volume private community practice—giving residents exposure to the full continuum from complex referral obstetrics and gynecologic oncology to routine private-practice gynecologic surgery. The program is a Ryan Program site, providing robust, structured training in family planning and abortion care from intern year regardless of a resident's personal participation level, and layers in rural rotations, advocacy (Colorado Lobby Day), global health, palliative care, and quality improvement as named curricular threads alongside protected research time. Career preparation is explicitly broad, supporting graduates heading into private practice, rural care, or competitive subspecialty fellowships (MFM, Gyn Onc, REI, Urogyn, PAG, MIGS all represented in departmental divisions), with strong subspecialty faculty mentorship and fellowship pipelines rather than a single dominant academic research track.
