Program Identity & Fit

This is a small, four-year community/safety-net Ob/Gyn program in Odessa, Texas, built around Medical Center Hospital, a tax-supported county facility mandated to serve indigent and high-acuity obstetric and gynecologic patients, supplemented by Midland Memorial Hospital and off-site rotations in Gyn-Oncology (Baylor, Dallas) and REI (UT Health San Antonio). The four-year structure is heavily clinical and service-based, with progressive obstetric/gynecologic autonomy culminating in chief rotations, rather than built around a formal research curriculum, though residents are expected to complete a scholarly project with "significant involvement" presented at one funded conference annually. There is no evident subspecialty track infrastructure or fellowship pipeline messaging; the emphasis is on producing broadly competent generalist Ob/Gyns comfortable managing high-risk, medically complex, and underserved obstetric populations in a resource-limited West Texas setting. The program values residents who can function with independence in a high-volume, high-acuity county hospital environment rather than a highly subspecialized academic identity.
