Summa Health/NEOMED is a community-based OB/GYN residency in Akron with university-caliber academics, distinguished by having all five subspecialties (MFM, REI, Gyn Onc, Urogyn, MIGS) housed on a single campus, giving residents full-spectrum subspecialty exposure without off-site rotations. The program emphasizes surgical volume and technology, including a laparoscopic rate three times the national average and a formal daVinci robotic surgery certification curriculum, alongside a new (2019) labor and delivery, antepartum/postpartum, and special care nursery unit as the leading maternal care provider in Summit County. Research is a structured graduation requirement rather than an elective pursuit, supported by a dedicated research director, monthly project meetings, NEOMED student assistance, and a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt course, with residents presenting at regional and national conferences. Strong CREOG performance, a 94% first-time board pass rate, and "excellent" fellowship placement suggest the program values residents capable of both high surgical competency and structured scholarly output within a tight-knit, single-institution training model.
