Program Identity & Fit

Parkview's OB/GYN residency is a community-based, high-volume program in Fort Wayne that trains residents at a large regional tertiary referral center (Parkview Regional Medical Center, a level II trauma center) alongside a community hospital continuity-clinic site, giving residents exposure to complex, high-acuity obstetric and gynecologic pathology drawn from a wide catchment across northeast Indiana, southern Michigan, and northwest Ohio. The curriculum emphasizes structured stepwise autonomy, formal da Vinci robotic and EMIGS minimally invasive surgical training, and dedicated subspecialty rotations (MFM, Gyn Onc, REI, Urogynecology), reflecting a program built to prepare graduates for any path including general practice, hospital-based care, fellowship, or academic medicine rather than steering toward one outcome. Scholarly activity is required and structured (resident research meetings, journal club, mentored QI/original research with expected presentation at PGY-3/4), supported by the Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation, though the program's own language frames research as an expected competency rather than a defining identity. The current resident roster is predominantly DO-trained from a range of osteopathic schools, and program messaging repeatedly stresses culture, teamwork, wellness, and community-oriented collegiality as core values.
