Program Identity & Fit

LVHN's OB-GYN residency is an independent, university-affiliated (USF Health Morsani College of Medicine regional campus) four-year, six-resident-per-year program embedded in a large, resource-rich community health network rather than a single quaternary academic center. Training spans multiple hospital and ambulatory sites (LVH-Cedar Crest, Muhlenberg, 17th Street, Hazleton, Pocono, Center for Women's Medicine) giving broad exposure to physiologic and high-risk obstetrics, high-volume minimally invasive/robotic gynecologic surgery, and a Ryan-designated family planning curriculum with dedicated complex contraception and abortion training. A structured, mentored research curriculum culminates in a required PGY-3 grand rounds presentation, and the stated mission explicitly prepares graduates for academic practice, community practice, or subspecialty fellowship. Distinctive features include a primary-care/Step 3-focused PGY-1 rotation, robotics training beginning in intern year, and rotations tailored toward the ambulatory model residents will practice in post-graduation, reflecting a program that values broad clinical competence, procedural fluency, and balanced generalist-to-subspecialist readiness.
