Program Identity & Fit

Valley Health Program is a community-based, Mount Sinai-affiliated OB/GYN residency in Bergen County, NJ, built around a single, well-resourced community hospital rather than a tertiary academic medical center, with all subspecialties represented under one roof and full-service REI/embryology labs, robotic surgery, and a developing complex family planning (Ryan) pathway. The program is new (first classes training in a newly built hospital opening 2024), accepts only three residents per class, and pairs high-volume, high-complexity benign and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery with strong subspecialty divisions (urogynecology, gyn-onc, MFM, REI) staffed by academically credentialed but community-practicing faculty. Research and QI are present as longitudinal curricular threads rather than a defining institutional mission, and the explicit messaging around wellness, work-life balance, mentorship, and "seamless transition into whichever career path" signals a generalist, practice-ready orientation rather than a fellowship pipeline. The program values compassionate, adaptable "adult learners" who will thrive in a small, cohesive class within a collegial, non-hierarchical community-hospital culture.
