This is a large, tertiary/quaternary academic neurosurgery program anchored by Jackson Health System and the University of Miami, distinguished by one of the largest spine faculties and case volumes in the country and by its formal integration with The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, a world-leading spinal cord injury research center. Clinical training spans the full breadth of subspecialty neurosurgery, including cerebrovascular/endovascular, skull base, neuro-oncology (in partnership with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and UMBTI), functional/DBS, pediatric neurosurgery, peripheral nerve, and neurotrauma, supported by nine PGY7+ fellowship pathways. The resident roster is dominated by AOA/Gold Humanism members, MD/PhDs, and applicants with dozens to hundreds of peer-reviewed publications and dedicated research years, signaling a program that prizes academic productivity and research sophistication as much as operative training. Global/humanitarian outreach (notably the Haiti neurosurgery fellowship and Project Medishare) and Jackson's safety-net mission add a distinct underserved-care dimension atop an otherwise research-intensive, subspecialty-fellowship-oriented identity.
