Garden City Hospital's Internal Medicine program is a community hospital-based, Prime Healthcare-affiliated training experience in suburban Detroit that emphasizes broad general medicine exposure with structured subspecialty rotations (cardiology, nephrology, GI, hematology-oncology, endocrinology, rheumatology) rather than a tertiary/quaternary academic identity. The curriculum explicitly supports two divergent tracks - primary care IM and subspecialty fellowship preparation - with dedicated PGY-3 elective/research time and an in-house cardiology fellowship as a built-in next step. Resident scholarly output is substantial and highly visible, with dozens of case reports, QI projects, and abstracts presented at ACP, CHEST, ASN, and specialty society meetings, indicating a program that actively cultivates case-based research and conference presentation as a core resident activity even though it is not a basic-science or grant-driven research enterprise.
