Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, unopposed family medicine residency anchored at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, a regional tertiary referral center, and sponsored through the WiNC GME Consortium, whose explicit mission is to expand locally trained physician workforce in underserved, HPSA-designated northern and central Wisconsin. The program is dually accredited for MD and DO trainees, offering a structured osteopathic curriculum with OMT clinic time and a statewide osteopathic collaborative, alongside customizable inpatient/outpatient/OB tracks, an 8-week OB rotation with an optional expanded OB Track, POCUS credentialing, longitudinal addiction medicine, and a rural medicine block in Antigo. Scholarly activity is present (CITI training, QI projects, journal club, FPIN writing) but structured as a supportive requirement rather than a research-driven identity, and outcomes emphasize graduates entering outpatient family medicine, hospitalist roles, and urgent care, with many remaining within the Aspirus system.
