A three-year community residency at Wellstar Douglas Medical Center in Douglasville, Georgia, about 20 miles west of Atlanta, and the only residency Wellstar lists at that campus. It began in 1994 as the first family medicine residency in Atlanta and later moved from Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center to Douglas. The continuity clinic is a newly renovated site two blocks from the hospital with examination and procedure rooms and family counseling rooms, and most outpatient rotations sit on hospital grounds. Rotations include the family medicine inpatient service, internal and hospital medicine, medical intensive care, two months of obstetrics, inpatient pediatrics at a children's hospital, behavioral medicine and six months of electives across the final two years. Distinctive elements include point-of-care ultrasound, a longitudinal behavioral health curriculum, an anti-racism curriculum, an on-site LGBTQ+ primary care clinic and an obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Palmetto, Georgia. The program reports a 100 percent first-time board pass rate over the past decade and that most graduates practice in the Atlanta area.
