Program Identity & Fit

This is a young (founded 2019), community-oriented ACGME family medicine program embedded within Valley Health System's five-hospital consortium in Las Vegas, designed explicitly to train physicians for a medically underserved population rather than to feed subspecialty fellowships. The curriculum opens with a dedicated Community Medicine block and sustains longitudinal engagement through a resident-led Community Engagement Committee, emphasizing social determinants of health, health equity, and cultural competency as core competencies alongside standard inpatient, obstetric, and outpatient training across a broad specialty network. Innovation is operationalized through simulation, task trainers, ultrasound modules, and a telemedicine/population-health curriculum rather than through bench or translational research infrastructure, and scholarly activity is offered as an opportunity rather than a structural pillar. The program's stated values center on hands-on generalist competence, interprofessional teamwork, wellness, and community embeddedness over academic prestige or procedural subspecialization.
