A 1-2 rural training track of the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency, taking 2 residents per year alongside a core Seattle program of 24. Residents spend the intern year in Seattle building core skills in inpatient medicine, ICU care, high-risk obstetrics and trauma-based emergency care, then move to Chelan in north central Washington. The rural years are based at Columbia Valley Community Health, a federally qualified health center serving underserved communities, using a fully longitudinal curriculum that includes school-based health centers and migrant camp outreach clinics. The program describes surgical obstetrics taught by family physicians, a high volume of clinic and hospital procedures including colonoscopy and EGD for interested learners, and a Spanish language immersion option.
