This is a community-based university-affiliated family medicine residency anchored at a 184-bed community hospital where family physicians make up over half the medical staff and three-quarters of admissions, paired with a certified health care home clinic serving a multicultural, multigenerational urban St. Paul population with significant immigrant communities from Laos, Burma/Myanmar, and Mexico. The program emphasizes full-spectrum, one-on-one attending-supervised training with substantial procedural breadth (colonoscopy, colposcopy, vasectomy, joint injections, POCUS) and robust obstetrics exposure (up to 50 deliveries in intern year, up to 30 percent high-risk continuity patients), reflecting an identity built around comprehensive whole-family, cradle-to-grave care rather than subspecialized practice. Longitudinal tracks let residents build linear expertise in fellowship preparation, rural or urban medicine, or women's health rather than relying on isolated elective blocks, and graduates disperse into metropolitan and rural full-spectrum practice, small-practice ownership, hospitalist work, or fellowships (sports medicine, geriatrics, palliative care, occupational medicine). The program values broad procedural competence, comfort working across the full continuum of care settings (clinic, hospital, nursing home, home visits), and genuine engagement with an underserved, linguistically diverse community.
